The song caught on in Japan however, going all the way to number 1. The Human Beinz Capitol follow up “Turn On Your Love Light” would be their final chart appearance – a meager number 80. In 1964 the song would be released by Liverpool’s Mojos on an extended play 45 rpm. “Nobody But Me” was composed by three members of the Isley Brothers and was released in 1962 by the brothers. “Nobody But Me” couldn’t miss with that great roaring intro and the great repetition of the word “no” – repeated more than 100 times during the short (2 minutes, 16 seconds) hit! (Denver, Colorado had their own event in City Park during that era.) A Capitol Record executive covered by saying the label was attempting to align the group’s image with “Human Be-In’s” that were taking place during that period of time. Gateway Records published the trade magazine ad below coupling the group with “The Mammals”!Ĭapitol would inadvertently misspell their name, dropping the ‘g’. Then, in 1967, they would find their way onto the giant Capitol Records label and would hit their stride with the smash hit “Nobody But Me”. Their first recording’s were covers of hot songs from the day – “My Generation”, “Gloria” and “Hey Joe” on the small Elysian label and on Pittsburgh’s Gateway label. To get in step with the mid 1960’s they would change their name to the “Human Beingz”. They were a classic ‘garage band’ performing the usual standards of the time – “Gloria” by Them and songs by the Yardbirds and the Who. The original members were Mel Pachuta on bass, Gary Coates on drums, John Belley on guitar, Joe Markulin on guitar. The Human Beinz formed in 1964 starting off as the “Premiers” and were local favorites in their town of origin, Youngstown, Ohio. It was one of these 45’s that I always pulled out from my record tote when I wanted to get folks out on the dance floor and it worked every time! The Human Beinz gave us the exhilarating “Nobody But Me”.
